Where does environmental health & safety start and what does it mean to our company?
For Sunny Corner Enterprises Inc., our commitment to environment health & safety starts with our owners. It is one of the supporting business pillars of the company. We believe in taking a proactive team approach. It is about straightforward planning today in order to ensure success for tomorrow.
Our commitment to environmental health & safety is clearly communicated to each every employee. Our project managers, field supervisors and tradespeople work together for the common goal of providing safe production. We ensure that each member of our team clearly understands his or her role prior to working on our project sites.
Training & Communication

We do not believe in trial by fire. It is only through evaluation of people and continuous tailored training in the area of Leadership for Safety Excellence and Hazard Recognition & Mitigation that our supervisors are able to move forward.
Continuous 360° coaching allows for solid 1 on 1 communication between the trades and their assigned supervisor, the supervisor and site management, and finally site management and corporate. 360° coaching allows for a continuous review of an individual's performance and opportunity for positive feedback.
Daily meetings allow for open discussion of the work plan as well as risk mitigation. Changes are discussed and everyone is encouraged to participate. Not only does this enhance the team spirit, but allows for different points of view.
Planning & Risk Mitigation

Planning begins long before the first worker arrives on site. It begins at the bidding stage.
It begins by having trained people who understand the scope of work, proper selection of partners and the evaluation of the risk.
Our EH&S department plays an essential part in the pre-planning of projects as well as the daily work planning activities associated with a project. This upfront and continuous support enables our project teams to display the desired culture of the company and achieve the outcome of safe production. Risk mitigation is truly a team effort.
Monitoring and Accountability

At Sunny Corner Enterprises we believe the most important factor in a good environmental health and safety program is that roles are clearly defined and communicated. We also believe that it is equally important that trends are identified & monitored, milestones are created & celebrated and accountability is consistently practiced.
In order to help us achieve this, we created and utilize a monthly EHS Dashboard. Reports are prepared to identify individual site performance, trade performance, geographical performance, non-conformities, areas of improvement, etc. Each month this information is compared to the previous month and communicated across the company for review and discussion.
Our employees are our most valuable asset. We feel it is import to recognize employees that go above and beyond the call of duty. It is their leadership that drives culture. Their drive is our success.
